Getting Started In Accounts And Accounting Books

Accounting is difficult business, and not everyone has the mind for it. In order to get a degree in accounting, you have to spend a large amount of time in college learning the ins and outs of the profession. If you have a more creative mind, accounting may not be for you.

If you aren?t a professional, but need to keep track of your own expenses, you can buy some accounting books and try to teach yourself the basics. The skills needed to take care of your home and your home business might be something you can handle. Some people choose to buy ledger accounting books to keep track of expenses and income, while others choose for software.

Software has a huge advantage over regular accounting books. If you have a basic understanding of what you are doing, you can learn how to put your information into the program, and it will do most of the work for you. It can also create reports to let you know how you are doing. You can get reports for expenses, profit, operating costs, and anything else you may need to know. Software such as Peachtree Accounting comes with customer support.

If you really want to do this, you should buy some textbooks first and get a hold on the basics. Accounting books can be found online as well as in many major bookstores. You can find more difficult books if you wish to learn everything there is about accounting or you can buy simpler guides that will teach you what you need to know without going into detail. This is great if you want to keep an eye on things, but then will hand everything over to an accountant or tax preparer at the end of the year.

If you don?t want to spend a lot of money on accounting books and programs, you can look at your local library for books. You may also want to look through eBay or your local classified ads for people selling used books and used software. If you still feel lost, call your local college. They may offer simple and basic accounting courses for those with a home or small business.

Customer Review: Great price for what you get

As the title says, it's a great price (right now, spring 2008) for what you get. 320GB and Firewire, which was my biggest point.

Customer Review: Great drive, poor backup software

I've had two of these drives for a little over a year now and they've been great. No noise, reliable and stable.

However, the backup software (EMC Retrospect Express HD) that came with them is horrible. It crashes Windows Explorer about once a day, and also takes the focus off of any window I happen to be working in constantly throughout the day. If I turn the software off none of that ever happens.

I've tried contacting their support and have been on their forums, but I've never received any help. If you're going to get this drive, make sure and use some other backup software because EMC's software is absolutely terrible.

This would have received a 5-star rating if it weren't for the software bundled with it.

The elegant case takes up very little space.
Installation is a breeze because you don't really "install" anything -- just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is not even an installation CD because all the included software loads automatically from the hard drive the first time you plug it in. For cream-of-the-crop, high-speed performance, use My Book Premium's FireWire 400 interface. However, if FireWire 400 isn't convenient, Western Digital has you covered -- the My Book Premium hard drive is also compatible with USB 2.0 connectivity. Best of all, you don't have to choose between one or the other because both interfaces are built into every drive.

Western Digital provides software (WD Backup) that makes backing up your data as easy as possible. With a few simple steps you can back up all your data files, or just save your picture and music files. You can also schedule routine backups so you don't have to worry about it ever again. Built for ease of use, this drive is equipped with a capacity gauge that shows how much space is left on your drive. The My Book Premium also includes intelligent drive management features. For example, the drive turns itself on and off with your computer, and Safe Shutdown prevents the drive from being powered down until all your data has been written.

But that's not all. Western Digital uses a smart design to make the My Book Premium look as good as it performs. The elegant case resembles a book and takes up very little space on your desk. Plus, it stacks horizontally and allows two or more drives to nestle neatly together like encyclopedias on a shelf. • Automatic backups of your existing hard drive
  • Archiving the music stored on your MP3 player

  • Saving and organizing your digital photo collection
Note: For basic, less expensive storage option without automatic backup software, consider the My Book Essential Edition 500 GB Hard Drive.

My WD 500Gb "Premium Edition" just died a week after the warranty expired. The Reminder

The Reminder
Feist is the solo project of Canada's Leslie Feist, a prolific artist who has also played in one capacity or another with Broken Social Scene, Kings of Convenience and half a dozen other bands. The Reminder, her third release, comes from the same well of quiet, appealing songwriting, and delicate vocalizations that made 2004's Let It Die such a sweet treat. This one is a bit more hushed and ballad heavy, closer to Cat Power than Peaches (with whom Feist has also worked with in the past) but maintains an indie-minded blend of confessional pop, jazzy folk, and lo-fi torch songs. The comparatively upbeat single "My Moon My Man" splits her voice off into unexpected harmonies, just dissonant enough to stick in your head. It's hard to predict where her melodies are going to end up; "Brandy Alexander" starts with a simple snap-pulse, and gradually unfolds into a cathartic chorus of sweeping vocal overlays. Throughout, the record profits from a simple, unfussy aesthetic that keeps the production minimal and the emphasis squarely on Feist's cracking, wistful vibrato. Everything sounds deliberate, but not obsessed over, like an e-mailed wedding invitation. It's a low-pressure vibe, welcoming and content to linger. And linger you will. --Matthew Cooke

Customer Review: I love the music of Feist

This is an interesting album by Feist. "1234" is the highlight of this disc. It is a fun song that makes me feel good. "Brandy Alexander" is a song about a love for a cocktail drink. I love the piano playing and her vocals on this track. "My Moon My Man" is a groovy track with a good beat. She takes the Nina Simone tune "Sea Lion" and makes it her own. She rocks on the guitar on this track. "So Sorry" is a beautiful song with a romantic tone. "Past In Present" is another pleasant upbeat track. "I Feel It All" is a track with good musical arrangements. I love all the percussion instruments on this track. "The Park" is a very soothing sounding track. There is something about her guitar playing that puts my mind at ease on this track. This is a very enjoyable disc from Feist.

Customer Review: Love this CD!

I don't know how I've missed "discovering" this wonderful artist until last year, but I'm making up for lost time. This is one amazingly terrific album!

Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More!

Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More!
Eat what you want, when you want--and watch the pounds disappear!

Americans spend more than $400 billion a year eating out, and behind each burger, turkey sandwich, and ice cream sundae is a simple decision that could help you control your weight-and your life. The problem is, restaurant chains and food producers aren't interested in helping you make healthy choices. In fact, they invest $30 billion a year on advertising, much of it aimed at confusing eaters and disguising the fat and calorie counts of their products. All of that has changed with EAT THIS, NOT THAT!. This book puts the entire food industry under the spotlight, and arms you with the savvy tricks and insider information it takes to eat well no matter where you are. With EAT THIS, NOT THAT! you're the expert in every eating situation, from the frozen food aisle to your favorite fast food joint to your local sports bar. You control your food universe-and lose the pounds you want--because, unlike every other customer, you'll know the smart choices to make-instantly!

EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is jam-packed with secrets the restaurant industry doesn't want you to know. For example:
Burger King doesn't want you to know that a BK Big Fish. Sandwich and fries have a whopping 1000 calories-nearly half your daily caloric intake! (Fish is usually healthy, but not this kind. Find out why with this book.)
Pizza Hut doesn't want you to know that a standard pizza in Italy contains 500 to 800 calories, but the same meal at Pizza Hut can top 2,100 calories! (You'd need to ride a stationary bike for more than three hours to burn off this mistake. Instead, eat all the pizza you want by making smart choices. EAT THIS, NOT THAT! shows you how.)
Macaroni Grill doesn't want you to know that a single serving of their Grilled Teriyaki Salmon has more than three times your daily allowance of sodium! (Cut your risk of high blood pressure by making smart choices at the same restaurant. You'll find them inside.)

If only you knew the industry secrets, you could eat at any of your favorite restaurants-or chow down on everything from the company vending machine to your kids' Halloween buckets-and know that every decision you made was smart, healthy, and the best possible choice for you. For example, did you know:
At McDonald's, an Egg McMuffin. is actually a healthy choice, with just 300 calories. (The Hotcakes pack more than double that amount!)
At Krispy Kreme, all you need to do is order the Very Berry Chiller instead of the Mocha Dream Chiller, and you'll save 500 calories! (Do that once a week and you'll drop more than 7 pounds this year-without trying!)
At Chipotle, you can cut 570 calories out of your Chicken Burrito just by ordering it as a bowl (without the tortilla) and asking them to hold the rice. (Same great taste, but with 94 fewer carb grams!)
Choosing a cinnamon roll at Au Bon Pain over Cinnabon will save you 463 calories and 20 grams of fat!
In the freezer section of your local supermarket, a turkey pot pie from Swanson's has 610 fewer calories than a turkey pot pie from Pepperidge Farms.
In the produce aisle, you'll get twice the vitamin C-and nine times as much vitamin A-simply by picking red bell peppers over green ones. (Who said eating healthy was difficult?)

And that's why EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is going to change everything. It's time to level the playing field. We're all tired of sneaky calories adding to our waistlines, and having to starve ourselves or spend hours on the treadmill trying to burn off the damage. Now-for the first time-you're in charge. With this simple illustrated guide to thousands of foods--along with the nutrition secrets that lead to fast and permanent weight loss--you'll make the smartest choice every time!

Customer Review: don't know how to do it

Unfortunately I haven't received this book yet although it is more than a month since it should arrive. Don't know what to do to get it.

Customer Review: Helpful Guide for Eating Out

This book is entertaining as well as an excellent guide when eating out to make wise choices in the calorie department!

Webkinz: Beagle

Webkinz: Beagle
Discover a virtual world with Webkinz pets. Webkinz animals come with a special Internet code so your child can interact with it online. The code lets you enter Webkinz World and bring your pet to life. Pet owners can name it, make it a home and even play games. Beagle measures 10". Not recommended for children under 3.

Minimum supported browsers: Windows - Internet Explorer 6, Netscape 7.2, Firefox 1.0, AOL Explorer 1.5. McIntosh - Safari 1.2.3, Internet Explorer 5.2.3, Fire Fox 1.5, High-speed Internet Required, Monitor Resolution 1024 x 768. Requirements may change; check www.webkinz.com for latest revisions.

Customer Review: There's nothing like watching a 7-year old with a Webkinz

I recently got to spend some time with my 7-year old niece and watched her "wax lyrical" about how much she loves her Webkinz (she has three of them!). She took me over to the computer and showed me how the computer part works with the beagle Webkinz she named "Sam". I watched her zip around the computer playing all sorts of games to "make money" to pay for the food, clothes, and treats for her "pet".

The game teaches kids some of the responsibilities of having a pet (like making sure they get fed, taking them for a walk, spending time playing with them, etc.) while teaching computer skills at the same time. The carnival-like environment where they play games to make money for their pet is fun and provides enough variety to keep them coming back day after day.

I'd highly recommend Webkinz for any child who loves toy animals and wants to gain further experience on the computer.

Customer Review: Webkinz Beagle

I bought this for my daughter when I couldn't find one around our home town. So, I ordered it thru the internet and Amazon. It was one of her favourite gifts! Not only can she cuddle with him, but she goes on the Webkinz website and creates a room for her virtual pet, and plays educational games that will build up W-$ for her to buy things for her pet!! She really enjoys playing on the website and she sleeps with the beagle every night! I even went and bought a chocolate lab webkinz for my son who is 3. He and his sister have a good time playing on the website and carrying their pets wherever they go!

E-SATA - USB 2.0 - Firewire 400 and 800 Interface / Mac Formatted Only

Customer Review: Do Not Buy this Drive!

Like others reviewing this product, I too, wanted to like this drive. Do not waste your time and money on this product. I have a MacBook Pro and I do a lot of presentations which requires a lot of storage. I thought this drive would fit my needs because it had a small footprint, complimented by computer and had multiple connections (e.g. USB, Firewire). At first the drive seemed fine, and then it started to hang up. It's flashing light went back and forth like a Cylon eye in Battlestar Gallactica. It just would not connect anymore. I was using a firewire connection. I turned the drive off, rebooted the computer and that did not work. I then switched to the USB connection and that worked for a day or so and then the drive did the same thing again. So I switched back to the firewire connection and after a couple of restarts it worked again.

So now I am thinking I have a defective drive, so I order a replacement (not from Amazon but from the Apple Store where I purchased it. I love Amazon don't get me wrong.) The replacement came and did the same exact thing.

My conclusion is that this drive is not reliable and I am not going to trust my files on this drive. I am on Amazon today to find another solution. Please don't let the looks fool you, beauty is truly on the outside of this one and the inside needs some work!

Customer Review: This could be a great drive

I have the exact same problem as the previous reviewer. The drive hangs up and freezes the Mac (Mini Mac running Leopard); and the Mac is indeed "too stupid" to quit trying. I found that if I leave the computer for a few hours and come back the drive is dead and Timemachine is hung.

It can be jump started by unplugging the firewire cable AND the power cable and putting it back together. This frees up the Mac but the drive does not come back. There may be a better way but it seems I have to re-boot the Mac before the drive is recognized and shows up on the desktop again.

I found a firmware upgrade (because of Leopard) on the Western Digital website that I applied. It now hangs and freezes a little differently but in fact still hangs and freezes.

It looks good and WOULD be a great value if it worked. The bottom line is it doesn't work; so don't waste your time, skip this drive and skip the problems; Mac owners deserve better than this.

It does have Firewire 400 and 800, USB2 and eSATA and I found you could reformat it for the PC... I don't know if you'll have the same problems on the Windoze machines but why try? Just pass it up.

Customer Review: AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!!!!

This bag is horrible. It is very small, made of a very cheap "Leather" and the lining is cheap as well; in fact, mine had a tear in it. Everything falls out of this bag!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. GO TO YOUR LOCAL WALMART AND BUY A BETTER BAG FOR $7.00!!!!

Customer Review: Buxton Over The Shoulder Sling Organizer Bag

This purse is very small, notwithstanding its expasion capabilities. I do not see how it can hold all personal items and a bottle of water and umbrella. It is just too small.

Travelon Messenger-Style Shoulder Bag

Customer Review: messenger shoulder bag

this bag is ok for quick shopping but there isnt a lot of room in it for every day use for all the items i usually have in my purse, If you are like me and carry a regual wallet and a check book then this purse is full with these two items already! this is something i would use when traveling perhaps when i dont take my wallet and check book with me jjust my id and other nessecary items its very secure and safe to carry but just not practica as an every day purse for me.......

Customer Review: Too small

I loved the look and material, but it needed to be about 2 inches bigger each way. The pouch has a zipper to allow expansion, but the mouth of the opening stays the same size, kind of defeating the purpose. It was just too small for my purposes and I sent it back.
